Definition
A watt is one joule per second (1 W = 1 J/s). Energy in joules is power times time: E(J) = P(W) × t(s). You cannot convert watts to joules without a duration. Reverse: P = E ÷ t. This tool accepts time in seconds, minutes, or hours.

How do I convert watts to joules?

Multiply power by time in seconds: E(J) = P(W) × t(s). For minutes multiply by 60; for hours multiply by 3600. Watts alone are not energy — you need a duration.

How do I convert joules to watts?

Divide energy by time: P(W) = E(J) ÷ t(s). That gives the average power over the interval.

What is the difference between watts and joules?

Joules measure energy (work done). Watts measure power (energy per second). 1 W = 1 J/s. Higher power delivers the same energy in less time.

How many watts equal one joule?

Exactly one watt delivers one joule every second. So 1 J over 1 s is 1 W average power — not “1 W = 1 J” without time.

How do joules relate to kWh?

1 Wh = 3600 J. 1 kWh = 3.6×10⁶ J. Divide joules by 3,600,000 to get kilowatt-hours for billing-style energy.

Can I enter kilowatts?

Convert to watts first (×1000), or enter kW as W after scaling. Example: 1.5 kW for 2 h → 1500 W × 7200 s = 10,800,000 J.

Is this the same as volts × coulombs?

Both give joules, but different inputs. E = P×t uses power and time; E = V×Q uses voltage and charge. Use volts to joules for the charge path.
